Product Overview

Cylus provides cybersecurity solutions for the rail industry, and as a product designer, I worked with Cylus on a project to design a new user interface for their flagship product. In this case study, I will share my design process, user research, design solution, and design impact. Through this case study, I aim to demonstrate my skills as a product designer and how my design solution improved the user experience while aligning with Cylus's business goals.

Design Process

Research Cylus's users, competitors, and market trends.

Define Defined the design problem and objectives based on research insights.

Ideate Brainstormed and sketched ideas for the new user interface.

Design Created high-fidelity mockups and prototypes.

Develop Worked with the development team to implement the design.

Launch Launched the design and rolled it out to users.

Iterate Gathered user feedback and made improvements to the design based on metrics and usability testing.

Product Challenges

Complex Navigation Users can have difficulty finding what they need or navigating to the right section of the UI due to the abundance of features and functionalities.

Overwhelming Data Displaying too much information at once can overload users and make it difficult for them to focus on what's most important.

Lack of Clear Calls-to-Action Without clear guidance on what actions to take next, users may become frustrated or confused about how to proceed.

Some changes…

After observing user behavior with the initial version of Cylus's product, it became clear that many users were struggling to navigate the system and understand how to use it effectively. To address this, I decided to redesign the product, starting with the information hierarchy. By restructuring the way information was presented, I was able to help users better understand what actions were needed to use the system optimally. In addition, I redesigned the entire look and feel of the system, creating a more intuitive and user-friendly interface that would better meet the needs of Cylus's target audience.
